The first group of hundreds of wildebeests crossed Mara River from Tanzania to Kenya at the weekend as a number of tourists flocked the area to witness the annual migration.

More wild animals are also expected to cross the crocodile infested river from Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park in the next three weeks.

And lions in the expansive park are not disappointed as they lie in wait for easy prey.

I remember seeing, if not the beginning of the migration itself, the thousands of wildebeest on the Mara during my first and only (so far) visit to Kenya in 1980/81. Awe-inspiring.

I was hoping someone else might mention it, but with no false modesty, one of the best works on the Serengeti-Mara migraion can be found here.
