Together with all Kenyans we are following with sadness and anxiety the violent turmoil in the aftermath of the elections which took place on the 27thDecember. Right now it is difficult to see how this conflict will end. Our hope is that negotiations behind the scene will lead to a political solution that will be to the benefit of all.

As part of our study of elephant communication, we are currently carrying out playback experiments in Amboseli. We arrived here on 16 December, and will be here for a month before returning to Norway (assuming the current political crisis does not force us to change our plans). During the last few days we have seen literally hundreds of elephants coming into and out of Longinye Swamp near to Njiri. Among those we have met is our 65 year old friend, Echo.
