The Amboseli Elephant Research Project has over the past years and still trains scouts from different areas all over Kenya thus extending our expertise on Elephant conservation. Amboseli is uniquely suitable place for the training as it is a protected area with an undisturbed population of wildlife. The training aims at increasing the skills of elephant conservation all over Kenya and Africa in general.

Some of the knowledge extended are covered in the below listed areas

  • Identifying the Elephants (sexing, aging, foot prints)
  • Recording data's – filling data sheets
  • Usage of GPS – recording locations (waypoints)
  • Photography techniques – Elephant ID photos
  • HEC (Human Elephants Conflicts) – Help mitigate conflicts
  • Discipline - KWS
  • Elephant behaviour

One such training was recently undertaken for five days for eight scouts from Laikipia. The sessions were guided by the agile interactions of Soila Sayialel (AERP Project Manager), Norah Njiraini (ATE Training Coordinator), Katito Sayialel (Field Research Assistant) and Robert Ntauwasa (Course Instructor).

At the end of the course the Amboseli Senior Warden was invited to wind up the training and present the certificates to the scouts.
