Little Male alive and kicking![]() The last time I checked Little Male (M-192) was seen on the 6th of September 2008, to the east of the park in a place called Olo doare with a spear in his trunk. The following days after he was speared, a search party was initiated both by air and on the ground for three days, but he was never seen anywhere. For about six months, he was not seen in the park or even in areas where the AERP field staff visits when monitoring elephants outside the park. During that time I had lost all hope, given that a male of his quality, possessing such an injury, and then having gone completely out of sight. I could not imagine the worst happening whatsoever since Little Male’s big and beautiful tusks were the reason he got speared in the first place, by poachers! On 23rd April, we could not believe our eyes when Norah and I bumped into him as we were driving towards Warden’s office at around 10 am. He was looking healthy and strong: No spear on his trunk but a healed scar. We could not control our feelings of happiness and great excitement. I just would like to send sincere gratitude to all who posted comments wanting to know how the situation was and the whereabouts of Little Male.

I just registered here, but have been reading the posts for the past few months. I was so happy and relieved to read the news about Little Male that it brought tears to my eyes. I'm so glad he's okay! Thanks, Soila, for your detailed update, and for posting the picture as well.

What great news this is! Thank you very much Solia and Norah!
I too lost hope giving all these sad news about ivory poaching recently. But miracle does happen and I couldn't be happier to hear this.
Little Male indeed was lucky. He must have good companions to at least look out for him and possibly took out the spear. And he is so beautiful.
Have a great day!
Lucky Little Male

What can we say, I don't think we expected this even if we all hoped he would return and kept looking out for an update here on the forum for any news ! What resilience and luck he must have had, not only with the spear but in relation to the above comment about the Ivory haul ! Thanks for sharing your good news Soila and Norah ! It made my start of the week reading this first thing Monday morning !

I am new on this site and love having the ability to 'talk' with others about our feelings and concerns for these majestic animals. I read about the spearing of Little Male and also thought the worse for him but hoped for the best. And he made it!
It never ceases to amaze me, the resolve and the human spirit to keep hoping, and the resilient spirit of Little Male to somehow find a way to heal from this terrible damage done by humans.
Thanks for sharing! ....Noella
