Hey everyone. Many thanks for this site. I was just wondering, has anyone of you visited and stayed at the Ol Tukai Lodge, Amboseli?

I was there in August, and its true...Amboseli is pretty dry at this time of the year, but I did find the Lodge a near oasis, an amazing place to rest. And it was amazing, we could watch elephants a stone throw away distance, at the swamp and in the park.

Just wanted to know if anyone else here has been there. Because I found the Lodge just impressively located. The best in my opinion.

:) Jimmy.

I've also been here and it is wonderful. Especially the location and the atmosphere. It is the best in Amboseli no doubt.

I have stayed at Ol Tukai Lodge 15 times staying a week at a time. It is truly a wonderful place. It certainly has the view as you state, being able to see the wildlife from your veranda. Aside from that, the landscaping is beautifully done, food is excellent and once the employees get to know you, you are one of "their family". I highly recommend it.

Unless something has changed since I was in Amboseli in August, the Amboseli Lodge closed about two years ago as has Kilimanjaro Safari Lodge, leaving Ol Tukai the only lodge in the center of the parks near the swamps. The Serena is a little further away.

Jen, many thanks for your comments. Just been to Ol Tukai Lodge this last week and wow - the rooms have totally been refurbished - complete make-over, artistically done. Really nice. If you want some photos (of the rooms), let me know and I can send you some.

Cheers.

Yes, a very nice lodge

I, or at least friends of mine on safari with me, have stayed in all of them, so I know them all pretty well.

In fact, there are only very few lodges in the center of Amboseli National Park, namely Ol Tukai, then the much older, but still quite nice Amboseli Lodge nearby, and the Amboseli Serena Lodge, which has the usual good and reliable quality of all Serena lodges.

Of the three, Amboseli Lodge used to be the one with a somewhat lower quality, for example, a not quite so wide food choice. On the other hand, it has a wonderful location and view, and I have absolutely no complaints. In fact, I've always liked its style. It is the perfect choice if you want to spend a little less money, but still want to rest and dine in the center of the park. However, things always change, and lodges fall back, then are renovated and re-staffed, and catch up again over the years. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of these lodges.

All other lodges are outside the nature reserve or near its edges, and most of those are also excellent. But altogether, and if you're not on a tight budget, Ol Tukai is hard to beat.

Along the edges I probably don't know all, but there is Tortillis Camp in the northeast, a very beautiful, expensive lodge, and Kilimanjaro Buffalo Lodge in the southeast, a little distance away from the park, also quite nice and beautiful, with its own airfield right between the road and the lodge. Actually, Tortillis also has its own unpaved, but fairly big airfield. The central lodges all use Amboseli airfield, which is located between Ol Tukai and the Amboseli swamp.

Amboseli National Park also has a fenced, bushy camp site. Not sure if they have a little restaurant or food shop, so make sure you know and adapt before you go there, but there are a few little shops and a restaurant in the central area between the Ol Tukai and Amboseli lodges.

On Lodges at the Amboseli

Thanks Hans for that. Just got from an earlier post here that Amboseli Lodge was closed down 2 years ago, leaving Ol Tukai Lodge as the only place near the Swamp where you get the wonderful views and locations.
