Two new tents with burnt but living palms

When I went down to Amboseli last week, I was very pleased to find three new tents with roofs. (See story on the fire that destroyed part of the camp: http://www.elephanttrust.org/node/585) The tent man and the carpenter and their helpers have done a fantastic job and very quickly too.

I was dreading seeing the burnt palms but they weren't as bad as I expected. Although the stems are black there are new shoots coming out at the top. On one palm there are even fruits appearing.

Much to my relief the camp is still the peaceful oasis we all love so much. When it rains it will once again be green and beautiful.

The reconstruction was not in this year's budget. Any contributions towards the rebuilding would be appreciated.

Thank you, Cynthia,

for the pic of the new tents. I asked for pix, then did not think to express my gratitude.

Dear Cynthia,
How is Espirit doing? Is he ok? Have rains come yet to Amboseli?

Esprit is hanging in there. I saw her two weeks ago. There is still no rain in Amboseli.
