Update on Amboseli![]() I wish I could tell you that there have been downpours in Amboseli, but it's not true. Earlier in the week we received the first drops rain, only 4 mm. It didn't even make the ground damp. There has been rain outside Park, but it seems to be too late for the wildebeests, zebras and buffaloes. They are dying very rapidly now and because they are so weak they are getting picked off by the predators. The elephants are still struggling and some are still dying but they can eat trees and bushes and so a greater proportion of them have survived. Still they have suffered badly and their families are being disrupted by serious losses. We don't know what the social structure will look like once this is all over. And we can only hope it will be over at some point.

Drought

The rain will come, I have no doubt it is just the waiting and seeing the dire consequences that sometimes makes it hard to believe that rain will come, but it will happen, I'll be praying!!!
Let it rain!

Hi!
The translation in Dutch is correct, I could know because I am Dutch.... ;-)
Sad to hear that there's still no rain..!
It's only two weeks before I am off to go to Kenya. I am very much excited!
Knowing you guys are very busy, I haven't heard anything about the possibility to visit you. Is there a possibility?
I hope to hear from you!

I think of you and hope for rain every day. I can only try to imagine the deep pain you feel in your stomach. Surely significant rains will come soon to Amboseli as they have elsewhere in Kenya. Has there been rain on Killi to help fill the swamps?

We appreciate comments with a friendly and legal content, but we have a problem when we cannot understand the content. This may force us to delete comments out of fear of illegal content.
I don't understand Dutch. It seems that the comment above is friendly and harmless. But I would have no choice but to delete any longer text in any foreign language I cannot understand.
Yet another point is that almost every well-educated person understands English, but not quite so many people understand Dutch or any other language.
