Video of Ely I took a bit of film of Ely a few days after we discovered him (see our note here and click Read more below to see the clip).
In this footage he is being a typical young adult male. He's old enough (20 years) to be very interested in females but he's not big enough to compete with the older, bigger males. Bull elephants grow throughout their lives so a 20-year-old has no hope of competing with a 40-year-old male. Nonetheless Ely is still going through this family testing the females in as subtle a way as possible.

When we are far from Amboseli and from elephants like I am, to watch your video and to get those informations make me to enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing. I can see his tail is even shorter than before ! What happened ? Do I see well ?

It just looks cut off in the photo because he is swinging it to the left. He has a full tail, although he has fairly sparse hair on the end of it.

for showing us this video. It's good to see Ely looking so well. Given his size at birth how does he compare in size with other bulls of a similar age?
