A visit to Amboseli....in Kansas?

Sign over the bar that serves, what else? Tusker. Nyama choma na chapati. Just like the real Amboseli, one enters and leaves by the 'airstrip.'

During my trips to Kenya, I have developed a great affection for the local food and have (especially after one disappointing attempt to recreate it in my home kitchen) despaired at the lack of restaurants in my area serving East African food. So I was very pleasantly surprised to see a listing for a new Kenyan restaurant right in Kansas City named, of all things, the Amboseli Cafe.

The first chance I got I took my parents and sister out for the nyama choma experience. The restaurant is simple and a little disorganized, but the typical Kenyan hospitality made up for it. I believe the delicious food is really best served under a makuti roof with a host of elephant friends seated around the table, but we made do in the yellow painted dining room on Shawnee Mission Parkway with Motown hits on the sound system.

Nice you can get

Kenyan food whenever you have a yen for it. Enjoy! And good luck on aceing your Spring exams.

Thanks for the report and the photos. Nice to know!

This triggered a few thoughts, like giving them an ATE poster. Do we have a suitable one?

[Addendum: Discussing this with Harvey now.]

Thanks for sharing Mark.

Thanks for sharing Mark. There is a large African community here in the Atlanta GA area and there are many ethnic restaurants very near my home, but I have never noticed one exclusively for Kenya. Most of them are Ethiopian. I will ask around and if I find one, will share the information here.
