"Echo An Unforgettable Elephant"

For UK friends and supporters you have a special treat. The final film about Echo, which includes a retrospective of her life and the consequences to her family after her death, will be shown on BBC2 on August 5. In the days previous to this premiere BBC will be showing all the other Echo films. To read more about the schedule and see a preview and interviews go to:
http://www.mikebirkhead.com/Programmes/EchoUnforgettable.html.

US viewers will be able to see the new film on PBS channels on October 17. I will post more information closer to the time.

Echos last film

Cynthia have just seen last film of echo cried my way thru it!! im a bit disappointed echo was not given shelter or water thats not survival of the fittest thats human cruelty at its worst. Elephants used to roam Africa now due to Our exploitation of the land (ie confining elephants to parks and tracts of land that obviously dont sustain them) Echo had nowhere to go to find water other than the designated land abandoned by humans due to lack of resourses for them (Humans). So yes more could have been done during the drought to help and hiding behind "its just natural selection"?? Really Cynthia??? Where was our humanity for Echo??
Liz

P.S.
Cynthia please dont think im having a personal go at you, Im definitely not but im mad at the kind of humanity that says "ah well what could we have done??" Because the answer to that for me is easy- do practical conservation of these creatures dont just sit idly by wringing your hands. I would much rather help the elephants survive than all the corrupt politician in the world!!

P.P.S. Im from Ireland not Uk and a complete fan of yours. If ever i could offer practical help to u or your org. let me know!!

Thanks again

I cannot wait to see this and have been replaying the clips that have are on the Elephant Voices website. I know I will become upset but also uplifted. I hope that the BBC now release all the films they have made about Echo on DVD in celebration of her life and the work everyone does at the Trust. I had the privilege to visit the Trust last November and fully appreciated what is being done there for the elephants and education of the young people and the local communities.

Thanks for the info and link

It still brought tears into my eyes when I read Erin’s tragic ending. Her struggle to survive, Echo’s refusal to abandon her and eventually Email was lead away when there was no hope. He probably couldn’t survive if not in such a great family. I remember though in 2003’s annual report Email was 20 months old when he was orphaned, which is still very young. Twoo was the youngest calf in record to survive her mother’s death at 18 months old. She probably couldn’t make it if Tulip wasn’t around. I am always wondering if she is still around and well. The latest news about her was that in January of 2008 she was speared. Tulip was speared around the same time and died. I miss the TAs and wish them well.

RIP beautiful Echo. You are forever in so many of our hearts

I love and am fascinated by the behaviour of all animals and have watched all the documentaries on Echo. This was a very beautiful film, which was very touching.

I hope there will be more documentaries following Echo's family
