New IFAW Blog Entry Live: The Enigmatic EA Elephants![]() I decided to write this month's blog entry about the EAs quite a few weeks ago. Imagine my disappointment then when I couldn't find them, even to take any photos to put up here on the website. As you'll see from the blog post, not getting data on the EA family is something I'm learning to live with, but they just spent about a week right in the centre of Longinye swamp, where any photos I took would just be dark grey blobs on a sea of green. I'd almost given up, and decided to use some of our archive photographs, when by good luck Norah and I found Eloise. I really wanted a photograph of Eclipse though, as she's a main character in the family and in this post. The deadline was looming though and still no Eclipse. Then, I went to have a shower earlier than usual one evening, and spotted elephants just by the camp - not unusual at all, but I was delighted to spot Eclipse and some other family members. I hopped in the Land Rover and drove over to finally get the shots I wanted. Proof that elephants can be suprisingly co-operative! Please click here to read the post. I hope you enjoy it and the images. Best wishes from me and the ATE team Vicki

Beautiful elephants!
I am so glad that the EAs are a very successful family. Is Eclipse the matriarch?

Hello Elephant2011, Eclipse is not the matriarch. It is Eloise, born in 1964 to Esmeralda.
Oh, okay thank you so much

Hi, Vicki from just north of the ecosystem! Enjoyed your virtual tour through the EA family tree. Bet you didn't know that we named Estella after my Lithuanian grandmother on my mother's side. But that probably won't impact on the EA's demographics. Hugs, H.
I didn't know that...

... you win that bet! How lovely :0) Makes me doubly glad her progeny are doing so well. You're right though - probably won't change the analyses that much ;0) See you soon! Hugs back, V

Wonderful report Vicki!
I just love Elvira. So sad to hear she died in 2009.
Anyways, great photos, especially of Eclipse and her HUGE belly!
Happy to hear two elephants are pregnant in the fam... Elkana and Eclipse!
Thank you,
Darby
