Amboseli ElephantsI have a few questions to ask anybody who knows the answer to them but does the AERP study all the elephant herds within the park or just a certain section? And will the family histories of extinct herds be posted after your done with all the current herds, or will they be in order with the letters? Because I'm kind of curious on to how the NA or NB became extinct, but anyways thank you. Please continue writing the family histories because I really enjoy reading them. One day I want to work with Elephants and study their behavior and social structure like you do.

NB Bull

The N families are extinct. In Amboseli, an elephant family is considered 'extinct' when there are no more females left to continue producing calves and thus keeping the family alive. A number of families in Amboseli have gone extinct over the years, a sad loss but part of nature. The 'N' families are among those families. However one lasting legacy of the Ns is that there is one living elephant, a bull, from the family. This is Neil, who was born in 1985 in the NB family. Neil is now 27 years old and growing into a big magnificent bull.
NA and NB Family
Wed, 2012-06-06 03:22 by Chris Sandusky
The NA and NB Families died out because there were no females left in the family to carry on producing calves to keep the family going. Its sad as I would love to know some N members.
Hope this helps,
