From time to time we would like to feature a friend and supporter of Amboseli Trust for Elephants. Amy Burgess is such a person. She recently
wrote:
I have had an interest in wildlife and animal
behavior since I was quite young, leading to my first work in zoos at the age
of 19, at the Santa Ana Zoo. I have worked at the Oakland Zoo for 7 years ,
where I am a supervising keeper. Although giraffes are my main area of
expertise, I find that every species has unique qualities that make them
interesting to observe and work with.
When I am not working with animals, I enjoy
drawing and painting them. Trying to capture the nature of the individual as
well as the species it represents is a challenge I enjoy.
I have donated artwork for the Oakland Zoo's
Celebrating Elephants since its inception. Contributing to such an important
organization is very meaningful for me, and I am glad I can offer something to
help raise some funds for Cynthia Moss and her work.
